Spearmint

Mentha spicate L. (Lamiaceae), commonly called Spearmint, is wildly cultivated worldwide for its remarkable aroma and commercial value. The Mentha genus includes 25–30 species which are rich in essential oil. As a medicinal herb in folk medicine, aromatic Mentha is commonly applied in the medication for flu,headache , red eyes, fever and sore throat, and it is also used as a flavoring  agent and functional tea. It is reported that the extracts of Iranian Mentha species show strong antioxidant and scolicidal activities, suggesting the development of anti-parasitic drugs from Mentha.

Uses

essential oil of the  spearmint are used as aromatic agent in a number of consumer products (toothpaste, chewing gum) in food, perfumery, confectionary and pharmaceutical industries.
